Term is applied to people who study crime and criminal justice. The de nition of crime and criminals not all social harms are criminals, and not all criminals acts are harmful - so we must specify which acts are de ned as crimes and who is de ned as a criminal. The origins and role of the law: why are some acts de ned as criminals and others aren"t. The social distribution of crime: we must understand the cause of crime to understand the cause we must know the characteristics of people who commit crime trends in crime over time, patterns in cities and provinces. Rules and laws: the regulation of behaviour our society has laws and norms so that we know what were doing, so that theres order not everyone obeys them these rules avert chaos and also enhances our sense of belonging.
