Wednesday, april 14: started late at night, past midnight, inmates were up most of the night. The guards had no idea that it was going to happen: usually inmates will tip the guard and the riot will be stopped. Form the statements from the police a number of inmates knew about it. Going to the gym was a privilege: the guards can only control these inmates through their authority. Weapons are in a secure area and only taken out during riots. Only incident in canada where the inmates were captured within the prison. The doors were manual and the inmates released all the other inmates: except for 1-d because that is where the undesirables were held. Some inmates did not want to leave their cells however were forced to due to other inmates. Some inmates were concerned about a fire; fires have been set during riots: number 1 cause of death in prison riots.
