Sexual violence: all offenses are covered in the criminal code. Any act of gender based violence that results in harm (physical, emotional, psychological, sexual) To understand why someone does something, we must understand their knowledge, past, ideas of normal the past is continually defining the present. The victim, offender, and witness all define same act in a different way b/c of their different constructed realities. Sexual deviance: goes against social norms within society. Sexuality: operates on a continuum identity and orientation. Sexuality defined as the capacity for sexual feelings. Law: codified set of rules (norms), social guidelines, social construction of morality consequences for breaking the law and violating the norms. Sex offenders often target people they know so it makes it harder to bring in the authorities/report the crime. Sex offense rates include sexual assault level 1, 2, and 3 and sex crimes involving children. Nunavut sex offense rate is 9x higher than national average.
