Four types of relations between 2 shots: graphic, refers to similarity or contrast between 2 shots to make continuity or context, rhythmic, the number of cuts in any scene, cuts create a rhythm. It can go to a beat or be jarring. Such as cuts in a music video for example. Distinction between scenes and sequences, referring to segments in a film. Scene: a series of shots that take place in a single location and that deal with a single action screen time= story time. Sequence: a unit of film construction consisting of one or more scenes. Montage sequence: a segment of film that summarizes a topic or compresses a passage of time into brief symbolic or typical images. Frequency dissolves, fades, superimpositions, and wipes are used to link the images in a montage sequence. Ex: in a romantic comedy, usually at beginning, when the characters fall in love.
