KIN110 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Thoracic Duct, Endothelium, Macrophage
Document Summary
Immune system uses the lymphatic system to survey parts of the body. Everywhere except bones, teeth, bone marrow and cns. Net loss of uid to loss of tissues from capillaries is then picked up by lymph capillaries surrounding capillaries and tissues. Very leaky and loos connections between cells in lymph capillaries. They are blunt ended-closes off, instead of joing into something else. This is an entry way to the lymph system. Lymph capillary made of endothelial cells connected by loose tight-junctions. Filaments anchor the endothelial cells to surrounding structures. Pressure gradients push open little aps into the lymph capillary. Pressure inside lymph capillary will push shut the valves after it"s lled. After the uid is in the lymph capillary it because lymph a clear uid. Two major entry points right lymphatic duct (right upper quadrant) and thoracic duct (everywhere else) Debris, infectious agents etc are identi ed and removed from the lymphatic uid by the cells in the immune system.
