Origin muscle attachment on the proximal end of the bone, usually the site of muscle attachment that is on the xed bone. Insertion muscle attachment on the distal end of the bone, usually the attachment site for the moveable bone. Most attachments are indirect attachments involving either a tendon or an aponeurosis. Aponeurosis broad piece of connective tissue that connects muscle to bone. Can be straplike (sartorious) or fusiform (biceps brachii) Straplike: parrallele to the muscle itself (arrangement), fusiform has a bulge in the middle: pennate: (pennate = feather ) Unipennate (eg. extensor digitorum longus); fascicles insert into a tendon that runs along the long axis of a muscle. Bipennate (eg rectus femoris); fascicles insert into a tendon on both sides of the long axis of the muscle.
