Materialism is the approach that emphasizes the impact material or objective factors in shaping society. So, one of the central measures is the relationship between the objective and subjective side of society. It argues that the objective side is the most important. The objective world existed millions of years before humanity evolved, or before thinking creatures/subjectivity evolved. Objective came first so the objective must build on top and build onto it. The objective world is not going to change to suit us, the world is what it is. So, we have to fit into the world. To do that we have to shape your subjectivity. We have to learn how to think in such a way that we can survive. We all must learn how to think in such a way that we can survive. For materialism the most important thing is always the objective physical survival.
