Average of 206 bones and 32 teeth - adult (number varies bc starts at 300 but fuses together, grows at different rates, or have extra copies, exclude defects like extra toes or fingers) Bone is a matrix: organic collagen (90%) flexibility so it can withstand minor forces acting on it if you have too little of this, then more possible of getting fractures, inorganic. Hydroxyapatite (composed of calcium phosphate) strength + rigidity so if you have too little of this, then too bendy. Periosteum: tough vascular membrane covering the outside of living bone: bone bruise: blood vessels on the outside of the bone and when it bursts then there is a bone bruise. Endosteum: ill defined cellular membrane that lines the inside of living bone. Epiphysis: thin layer of cortical bone, red bone marrow and yellow bone marrow live. Epiphyseal line: site of growth plate in adolescence.
