CAPS 391 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Scapula, Shoulder Girdle, Appendicular Skeleton
Document Summary
Name and describe the bones of the shoulder girdle. Name the bones of the upper limb. Identify the major features of the bones of the upper limb. Shoulder girdle: bones that connected the skeleton of the upper limb to the axial skeleton. Clavicle and scapula; part of the appendicular skeleton. Clavicle: only long bone in that sits horizontally first bone to ossify in embryonic stage. Medial/sternal end: articulates with sternum lateral/acromial end: articulates with acromion. Subscapular fossa: large concave fossa; has 3 borders. Medial/vertebral border (closer to the vertebral column) Glenoid cavity: where the head of the humerus articulates with the scapula. Acromion process: lateral end of the spine. Supraspinous fossa: area above the spine of scapula. Infraspinous fossa: area below the spine of scapula. Greater tubercle: vertical bony elevations below the neck. Lesser tubercle: vertical bony elevations below the neck. Intertubercular/bicipital groove: sits between the two tubercles; biceps in this groove.
