54 views3 pages

Document Summary

Identify the main components of the central nervous system. Briefly discuss the main anatomical features of the spinal cord, brainstem, cerebellum, diencephalon, and cerebral hemispheres. Name the meningeal layers and explain their functions. Comprised of all the structures that surround the 3rd ventricle. Peripheral nervous system: all spinal and cranial nerves. Neural tube in embryo (divided into two areas) Cerebrum (grows much faster than the other parts of the brain) Grey matter: made up of nerve cell bodies and neuroglial cells. White matter: primarily made up of myelinated fibers and supportive cells. Length of the spinal cord does not correlate to the height of the person (43-45cm) Starts at foramen magnum and ends at the level of li-lii vertebra in 70% of normal populations. In taller people, the spinal cord ends at around txii, and in short people, the spinal cord can end around liii. Cylindrical, but two areas where the cylinder is larger.
