EQUIPMENT:
spatula glass filtering funnel
50 mL beaker filter paper
250 mL separatory funnel litmus paper
10 mL graduated cylinder 2 - 125 mL Erlenmeyer flasks + corks
25 mL graduated cylinder dropper
100 mL beaker 100 mL RB flask
2 - 50 mL Erlenmeyer flasks + corks 50 mL RB flask
CHEMICAL HAZARDS AND WASTE DISPOSAL
Benzocaine
- Irritant to skin, eyes, mucous membranes
- Put in “solid waste” container
Diethyl ether
- Put in “liquid organic waste” container
- HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. Keep away from open heat sources. May form explosive
peroxides. Harmful vapour.
HCl
- Causes burns. Corrosive. Avoid breathing vapour. Prevent contact with eyes and skin
- Dilute with plenty of water and wash down sink
NaOH
- VERY CORROSIVE TO SKIN. Causes severe burns.
- Dilute with plenty of water and wash down sink
Sodium sulfate
- Use cautiously
- Put in “solid waste” container
Triphenylmethanol
- Use cautiously
- Put in “solid waste” container
