Day 1 of a philosophy course deals with issues about which there is ongoing research and debate. So, what takes the place of a settled body of knowledge is the tradition of inquiry and major figures and their works. That is where we find the disciplinary culture, standards of adequacy, methods, and the sense of what is interesting and of what philosophy is up to, in general. A challenge for those seeking to work in philosophy and science.
