Remote sensing: the role of satellite imagery in environmental management, remote sensing can be defined as the science of measuring something without touching. How does it work: allows us to see light in many different wavelengths, photons from the sun produce the light we see. Vegetation looks green but its dark, because they reflect photons, reflect more green photons but not many. The infra red from vegetation: can build camera that can. Most common application: global observation on weather, satellites waiting to be launched. Very high tech and collaborative: theses satellites are very far away, the ones we use in environmental science have polar orbits and build image of earth, some have large or small pixels. 1 km in one day: global vegetation datasets: modis from nasa. Africa: half of orbit its daylight and half night, before then they turned off at night.
