Remember that landsat is the satellite program that we are most familiar with. Right now, we are using landsat 8, however, when landsat 8 was approved, landsat 9 was approved at the same time. Landsat 9 due to be launched in 2020. Both and 9 would be in operation at the same time. However, the debate now is about landsat 10. Interesting fact: the us congress not particularly interested in continuing funding earth. Now, the europeans have designed and are now building a new series of satllites called the sentinels. **sentinel 2 set is really similar to landsat! Both landsat and sentinel satellites have 30 m pixel. Both landsat and sentinel satellites have blue, green, red, nir red bands. This is going up on the space station next year! Now, we are seeing a movement towards earth observation. We are making more satellites, but making them smaller. Multiple smaller satellites instead of one big one.
