Document Summary

New ways of making and perceiving art. Art must enact change and make a statement. All the big questions have already been asked all questions about truth and identity answered, not inventors of these questions. All the statements have already been made. Modernism pushed arts to its limits and exhausted itself. Poaches idea of grabbing references from other periods of art and cramming into own artwork. Empty citation will quote other artwork that came before it, but don"t mean much (shallow and empty things thrown in just for sake of referencing) Blurring lines between high & low culture. Temporariness or in-betweenness of places and feelings. Philosophical knowledge claims or ontological assumptions of earlier theory. It"s complicated: postmodernism is largely used in film to upset or complicated. Postmodern subject: no fixed, essential or permanent identity but rather assuming different identities at different times. Construction of identities no longer strongly identified with place.
