Practical considerations food availability and cost, hunger, convenience, health status: define culture. Culture affects food selection by how food is acquired, stored and prepared, meal patterns, the symbol of the food, religious beliefs and what is consider to be acceptable food: define and describe acculturation, ethnocentrisms, and cultural relativism. Acculturation is the adoption of the behavior patterns of the surrounding culture which results in changes in cultures and customs, food, clothing, and language. Ethnocentrism is the belief that one"s own value system and lifestyle is most appropriate by judging another culture to one"s own. Cultural relativism is the beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, ethnics is relative to social context.
