FNH 355 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Carbon Cycle, Water Scarcity, Natural Disaster
Document Summary
Objectives for class #8- june 10, 2015: describe the global prevalence of hiv/aids. In 2013, approximately 35 million people living with hiv/aids in the world, in which approximately 50% of them are women. From 1997 to 2010, number of new hiv infections per year fell 21%. Indicate how hiv/aids affects agriculture in regions with high prevalence of infection. Less land cultivated, less weeding/pruning/etc. , less labor-intensive work can be done, missed planting/harvesting season, loss of agricultural knowledge and skills passed to the next generations. Indicate how the agricultural sector could help mitigate impacts of hiv/aids. Cause by human activity which affects the carbon cycle . Climate is not just warming but it is becoming unpredictable: describe ways in which increases global temperatures would affect food crops. Interfere with pollination, for instance corn is most vulnerable. Mountain glaciers melt, rivers that rely on them will disappear and irrigation systems that rely on rivers will be challenged.
