Document Summary
Geob 102 - our changing environment: climate and ecosystems - lecture 21: physical environment and distribution of life. *genus and species in italics and genus always in capital letters. Consider the environmental conditions, water availability, soils -> finding patterns -> go into more specific things like soil ph. Reproductive system has different tolerance level than the actual lethal temperature tolerance. Some animals are poikilotherms or ectotherms or cold blooded (amphibians, reptiles, fish, insects), and some are homeotherms or endotherms or warm blooded (mammals, birds). The animal has a way to adapting to temperature changes. Tropical animals don"t have a big range to work with because temperature doesn"t change much. Arctic animals are adapted to a wider range of temperature. Mesophytes: plants that tolerate moderate moisture conditions. Hydrophytes: plants that tolerate very wet conditions. Geographic range: the entire area where a species can be found regardless of whether it is common or rare.
