Dalai sent back to litang (where he was born), manchus don"t want him there either. 80% of pop eventually die from combination of war and disease. Manchus come up to the golden urn to find the next lama. Francis younghusband head of the 1903 expedition to lhasa. British want to trade with china, tea is the big deal. Try to trade indian grown opium for chinese tea. 13th dalai lama is very hostile to the british, knows the are conquerors.
