The united nations, 1945: the universal declaration of human rights, 1948, the bandung conference, 1955. Un tries to work in the background, not center stage. Un has very little sanctioning power, they do have troops that can act militarily. Main commitment is to maintain international peace. Article 39 outlines the security council. (5 permanent and 10 non-permanent) General assembly is all the countries in one room. 2/3 of the general assembly has to approve a resolution, unanimous for security council. Sets norms for how states should conduct themselves. Article 1 says that everyone has reason and conscience. Article 2 asserts everyone is entitled to these rights. Article 5 says no one will be subjected to torture. Article 11 you cannot be found guilty of an act that wasn"t a crime when you committed it. Shengen agreement, allows any citizen to go to another country to work.
