KIN 361 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Otitis Media, Cerebrospinal Fluid, Rhinorrhea
Document Summary
Head trauma on field protocol: do not let the athlete move, with loc (cid:523)loss of consciousness(cid:524), assume (cid:494)c(cid:495) spine, do sensory testing. Scratch/pinch front and back of shoulder, brachium, antebrachium, hand, side of thumb and little finger, pelvis, thigh, calf, foot. Test bilaterally and ask athlete to respond when he/she feels something: do motor testing. Upper & lower body, bilaterally: rest & recovery 27% only cleared in less than (cid:884)(cid:886) hours, only is going to clear in 3 days, physical rest. No pe, grade 2: should not even go to school as cognitive work can be taxing on the brain, therefore delaying recovery; stop any activity that will elevate heart rate: cognitive rest. Retest in five minutes ask the date, ask them to count backwards by (cid:885)(cid:495)s from thirty: check pupil response to light, and tracking, check for csf (cerebrospinal fluid) (skull fx)
