Neo-assyrian period - ashurnasirpal ii"s north-west palace at nimrud. North west palace --> a large structure with a lot of rooms. Throne room b --> this is the principle room, you will see it once you enter through the main gate and cross the courtyard. The throne room is also located inside this room --> this is where the king received foreign dignitaries, generals, scholars, officials. There are also other rooms behind the throne room. 2 were found with stone relief --> tells of their importance. Pair of human-headed winged lions (lamassu) --> they have the head of humans, with bodies of either lions or bulls. Usually found in the doorway/right beside the doorway of spaces leading into temples and rooms of the palace --> speaks to their protective role. There are two different types of lamassu guarding the doorways, depending on where they are put doorways, depending on where they are put.
