Document Summary

Phys101 - lecture 4 - gauge pressure, buoyancy, and archimedes" principle. When tire is deflated, the inside pressure inside a tire is p0 and pguage = 0. Gauge pressure is the pressure relative to the atmospheric atmosphere. Fluid pressure increases with depth; increased pressure is exerted in all directions. Higher pressure at bottom of objects results in a net upward force. The deeper the object is immersed, the more force is exerted on the object. When an object is fully / partially submerged: A) upward force is exerted on the object by the fluid. B) the magnitude of fbuoyant is equal to the weight of fluid displaced. Fb only depends on an object"s volume and the fluid"s density.
