Document Summary
Social cognition: the attitude formation and attribution theory. Is related to memory and biases which helps to explain how people think about themselves and others. People live their daily lives gathering data and making predictions about what will happen so they can act accordingly. The more one is exposed to something the more one will come to like it. Persuasive messages can be processed through the central route or the peripheral route. Involves deeply processing the content of the message. Involves other aspects of the message including the characteristics of the person imparting the message (communication) In 1934 richard lapiere conducted a study that illustrated this difference. In the us in the 1930s there was rampant prejudice and discrimination against asians. He traveled the west coast to see if in reality asians were discriminated in hotels and restaurants but only on one occasion did he actually see discrimination.
