Anxiety disorders generalized anxiety disorder: unexplainably tense & worried, no specific threat or danger. With tension/fatigue/irritability/restlessness phobic disorders: irrational fear of specific object or situation. Often accepted and lived with, but can interfere w/ daily life obsessive-compulsive disorder: repetitive unwanted thoughts and/or compulsive behaviours. Many subtypes (e. g. not-just-right, contamination, checking) hoarding: inability to throw things away or get rid of things. 75% experience trauma, 10% or less develop ptsd. Made use of in psychotherapies cognitive: evaluation of consequences interpretation of events, danger cost/likelihood. Can be diagnosed with symptoms for min 2wks w/out noticeable cause. Overactive little need for sleep elated grandiose optimism & self-esteem mild b-d may result in an increase in creativity has one of highest suicide rates of any disorder. Explaining mood disorders psychoanalytical: unconscious conflicts, anger turns inward to produce depression biological: depression genetic predispositions, neurotransmitter abnormalities social-cognitive: negative thoughts influence biochemical events creating a cycle of depression.
