Humanistic/existential: humanistic/existential therapies: a broad class of therapies whose purpose is to emphasize the development of human potential and the belief that human nature is inherently positive and can deal with disorders on its own. Goal: to get rid of the disorder. Efectiveness: mixed good for high-functioning people with certain types of disorders. Used for: primarily for depression, anxiety, and addictions: humanistic theories were a direct response to the then dominant psychodynamic approaches and give full control to the patient, not the therapist. Person-centered therapy: goals: person-centered therapy (pct): a humanistic therapy that assumes that all people have a tendency towards growth and that this growth can be facilitated by acceptance and genuine reactions from the therapist. Pct has historically been the most popular form of humanistic therapy, though it"s popularity waned after it"s founder (carl. Insight comes from patient, not from therapist (not even a little!)
