If we want to train people in metacognition, we can do it. And if we give them instructions on how to transfer their new skills into other areas they have a better chance of doing well. Selective attention: focus on task-relevant information: paying attention to the relevant, and not the irrelevant, information, asked to focus on task relevant info and ignore irrelevant info. E. g writing an exam, taking notes, etc. Top-down attention: task or goal-directed, searching the shampoo aisle for your favourite type is an example of, top-down attention, bottom-up attention. It wont just pop up like in bottom-up. Two or more concurrent tasks: 2+ relevant information tasks. E. g reading and watching tv at the same time, or just simply driving. We are(cid:374)"t good at the(cid:373), espe(cid:272)ially as (cid:449)e get older.
