Greif: intense suffering caused by the death of a loved one. Bereaved: people who experience the death of a loved one go through a period of bereavement. Mourning: public displays of grief according to social and cultural norms. Survivors acceptance: accepting the reality that a loved one is gone and this is the new permanent reality. Includes physical shock and emotional shock; numbness, isolation. Starting to rebuild their life and engage in new activities, the pain fades away. Combines the work of kubler ross and bowlby. Disbelief, yearning, anger and depression spike but decline over time.
