Document Summary

Brain regions mediating emotions (limbic system, prefrontal cortex, amygdala, brain circuits) Effects of acute vs chronic stress (beneficial and detrimental effects) Papez took postmortem brains, who showed particular emotional disorders (too angry, always scared ) and also the brains of rabid animals. He found a similar disruption pattern in certain areas (papez"s circuit!) The limbic system takes care of the 4 f"s feeding, fleeing, fucking, f. Amygdala = mediates emotional responses (especially fear); both autonomic and behavioural responses (temporal lobe) that physiological arousal, is instigated, when the amygdala is turned on. The amygdala is connected to the hypothalamus, as well as other parts of the brain! That are involved in moving you-- away from something bad, and towards something good. Hippocampus = major memory center (temporal lobe) - key role in helping you remember these things, and linking whatever to emotions! Orbital, or medial pfc damage (find out where in brain they are)
