Personality: set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that is organized & relatively enduring that influences his/her interaction with, and adaptations to the environment: mechanism: how we process information, how we think about things/perceive things. E. g. someone who"s high in neuroticism: within individual: internal aspect, we make inference about personality by examining behavior, organized: everything comes together to form a functioning person, not highly introvert/extrovert within a minute. Exception is personality disorder/mental illness: relatively enduring: extent to which personality traits are stable over time, influences: personality is influential. Can one predict/explain behaviour over time: interactions with, adaptation to the environment: including intrapsychic, physical and social environment. Explains way of thinking in a number of different domains. What we all have in common as a species and possessed by nearly everyone. How we process information, how we behave, e. g. everyone is social in nature. Evolutionary theory and personality based: individual group differences.
