Document Summary
Key health behaviours for primary prevention of chronic disease. Cigarette smoking is the leading preventable cause of premature death in canada. Around 20% prevalence in quebec, all the way down to 14-15% in bc. Percentage of current smokers (daily or occasional) by age group, canada . 15-19: lowest age range, from 1999 (just below 30%) to below 15% in 2009. 20-24: highest age range, being at 35% to ~21% (1999-2009) Biggest point to take, is that each age range is dropping in the last 10 years. Daily and non-daily smoking percentages lowered from 1999-2013. Daily is slightly lower than non-daily, and men smoke more than women. Since 1965, smoking rates have decreased significantly. Current smoking prevalence; daily is smaller than non-daily, men smoke more than females overall but not that different from non-dailys. Lung cancer risk is wayyy higher for smokers than non-smokers. 1959-1965--1982-1988, men risk for lung cancer is significantly higher than female.
