Conflict theory : inequality is the primary source of conflict in society. Capitalism is a key source of conflict: social structure doesn"t benefit society as a whole, but specific groups in society, access to resources: money, food, education etc. Is dependent upon social class, ethnicity, race, gender > inequality. Emile durkheim: analogy of society is like a human body; keeps things running, every part has its own functions to keep society going. If there"s f(x), it must be necessary and be the best way of achieving something. E. g. exams are the best way" to measure knowledge (but we know there are inconvenient facts): society"s goal = is to maintain homeostasis. Inequality; this theory agrees with the conflict theory. Key concepts: society is structured to benefit men, patriarchy (set of values, not capitalism) is the key cause of inequality, gender roles are a social construction, not a born trait.
