Crime news triggers emotion like no other news. Crime news coverage is increasing while rates are decreasing. People who frequently watch the news are more likely to believe crime rates are increasing. Most crime news are reported before disposition. Functions: provide entertainment, emphasize criminal justice output (positive attitude towards local police units vs. An exaggerated reactions towards the activities of particular social groups; a worrying about societal values in jeopardy (ex. racism towards islamic people after 9/11) Crime news are more than just entertaining.
