This course will explore concepts in exercise science and sports medicine. The student will be challenged to apply basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to the settings of exercise, training and sports. Adaptation of body systems to exercise, injury and reconditioning will be studied. The course will consist of lectures, presentations, discussions periods and demonstrations. January 20 - upper extremity anatomy lecture. February 3 - quiz # 2 15% February 24 quiz # 3 15% To understand basic mechanisms of brain trauma associated with sports. To understand basic concepts of sport concussion assessment tools. To learn anatomical structures of the upper and lower extremities, such that the student is able to apply this understanding in the assessment and treatment of various sports injuries. To learn strategies of injury prevention that athletes can practice, both in-season and off-season. To understand principles in the assessment and evaluation of sports injuries. To understand principles in the treatment and rehabilitation of sport injuries.
