PSYC1023 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Walter Mischel, Albert Bandura, Observational Learning
Document Summary
A person who is extroverted will be the same with friends, work, and family. They show the same trait in multiple situations. Factor analysis (several personality measures are highly connected) identifies a few basic traits. Extreme levels of positive and negative traits are often undesirable. The model is popular today and biology contributes to the five factors. It is the precursor to the adult personality. Note identical twins have much higher correlations on each of these five factors than fraternal twins. Behaviourism emphasises the outside" more than the inside". People are the way they are because of the environment. Skinner views situations as signalling possible reinforces and punishers. Telling jokes is reinforced in parties, but not funerals. Reinforcement and punishment are lifelong; childhood isn"t special. Peoples personality is flexible to change which opposes freud"s view. Albert bandura emphasises observational learning, reciprocal determinism and self- efficacy. Self-efficacy self-confidence (you can do it or not)
