Can help mental health, b/c you view it as a problem w/ your brain. More expensive to treat disease than to prevent. Encourages a view of health beyond biomedical model-biological, psychological and social. Encourages the use of health promotion along w/ treatment- changes in nutrition, behavior, etc. Eg/ depression does not cause liver disease but a person w/ depression may consume more alcohol, which may lead to liver disease. The relationship between biological, psychological and social factors are not testable.
