PSYC1003 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Casual Dating, Electrodermal Activity, Albert Bandura
Document Summary
Behaviour and desired outcome not always directly paired. Association strengthened by apparent cause and effect (is it logical?) Instinctive drift: animal"s innate response tendencies interfere with conditioning. Real world application: video games (cell phone apps to complex games) use operant conditioning to get you to play more. Classical and operant conditioning can be indirectly learned. Monkey see, monkey do: electrodes implanted in monkey"s motor cortex, when monkey moves buzzer goes off. Researcher has food and goes to eat it, buzzer goes off even though monkey is not moving. Same brain activity happens if a monkey observes an action or performs the action. Activated by seeing another perform the same action. May underlie theory of mind (understanding others, putting yourself in their shoes) Humans spend a lot of time immersed in media (tv, video games, online, etc. ) Youngsters learn behaviours and responses from media models. Children reproduce observed violent behaviour by adult to doll.
