PSYC1004 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: German Occupation Of Norway, Anschluss, Rudolf Hess
Document Summary
Both men were painters: hitler had wanted to make it his career, and was supported in his desire by his mother. After she died, he kept at it but washed out of art school. For churchill, painting was just for fun, and he wrote a book, painting as a pastime. Both men were academic underachievers: churchill had a difficult time finding a place at university, but both were charismatic, some might say mesmerizing, orators. Both were first world war veterans: churchill served on the western front in the first. World war after the disastrous defeat in the dardanelles campaign, for which he received blame (come on, what"s a few old battleships in the grand scheme of things?). Hitler meanwhile distinguished himself in the trenches and received the iron cross, first class, an honor rarely given to a corporal. Both rose to power partly on the strength of their writing: hitler"s mein kampf was enormously popular.
