Who is not a member- people of colour. 3 dimensions of whiteness: location of structural advantages of race privilege. 1: standpoint, white people look at themselves, others and society, set of cultural practices. Social location, not description of skin colour. Race as a social location that shapes the way the world is experienced. Whiteness represents advantage and privilege of being: white, male, middle- class, heterosexual and able-bodied. Antithesis: person of colour, female, working class, lesbian/gay and disabled. Not all white people have access to privilege and power. Examples: homeless white male, white mother on welfare. Working with ethno-racial communities means being aware that the terms (cid:522)race and (cid:522)ethnicity were developed by whiteness.
