When asking a closed questions some people wanted to elaborate more. With closed questions it was more boring. Hard to have a conversation with closed question. Open questions tended to ramble on and get off topic. Safety needs, emergency contact, are they safe, Why questions do not automatically lead to defensiveness. Disrespectful if a counselor does not invite the client to share their theories on the situation. They made me mad so i beat them. Ask questions that make them think about their behaviour. Maybe you don"t have to get angry all the time. Most anger management programs don"t teach their clients how not to get angry. Understanding you have a choice for your emotions. People can be angry but they need to know that they had the choice. They are also aware of what you are aware of. Ask them to paraphrase it for you. By asking you are showing that you are listening.
