-Provides all of us with the ability to be connected to everyone else
-Can unite all media of communication into one super system
-Can eliminate distinctions between here and now
-Earlier changes in communication were in response to needs or survival in
physical, cultural, economic, political and social environments
-Later changes were motivated by both survival needs and technological
possibilities
-This revolution was born as a byproduct of attempts to improve the media that
emerges from the telegraph
-What is different? Information itself is an essential agent in the dynamic
interfaces between time, space and energy
-How it develops: Reduction of all information to a single unit, the binary digit – a
