Document Summary

Cell division (meiosis) and cell cycle lecture (part 2) - Cell division: process by which cells make more cells. Asexual reproduction: a single cell (ie. bacterium) reproduces to form 2 daughter cells (remember asexual=1) Sexual reproduction: offspring receive genetic information from 2 parents, From female parent & from male. Eggs + sperm= gametes(male and female gametes merge to form organisms) This is a type of asexual reproduction where it replicates the genetic information first then divides into 2 equally sized daughter cells. When eukaryotic cells divide, they divide the nucleus through mitosis and then the cytoplasm divides into 2 daughter cells through the process called cytokinesis(cyto=cytoplasm) Sex cells, (gametes) are produced by meiotic cell division. Includes two rounds of nuclear division meiosis i and meiosis ii. This process is used by gametes (sperm and egg cells for sexual reproduction) Each daughter cell is genetically unique: compare to mitosis . Results in results in 4 daughter cells.
