BUSI 3305U Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Operational Definition, Statistical Significance
Document Summary
Goal is to describe, predict (whether the turnover rate will go down), explain (has to do with causality), control (what do you want to do) Measurement assigns #s to objects to represent quantities of an attribute of the object: construct: something that doesn"t exist in the physical world. Standardization: collecting data in a systematic way so that it"s a close reflection of the attribute, ex: everyone fills out the same form. Interval: rank-order, given attribute is categorized and numbers are assigned, no order or, rank-order to how much of the attribute they possess, differences between points in measurement scale are equal, reflects differences more accurately. Ratio: similar to interval, logical or absolute point. Subjective: scoring system more elusive, customer feedback. Customers may love the salesperson, but doesn"t buy. How well did you perform relative to others scores. Y-axis = what is being predicted, x-axis = what is the predictor. If there is a horizontal line, there is no correlation.
