Petty crimes are investigated by police officers, detectives determine larger role. Most police officers are around age 34, small population over the age of 55. Police recruits need to be aware of age of officers and barriers related to age. Reasons for increase in women police officers. Change of culture: a taste of action. Ethnic and racial minorities: more discrimination of there is decreased gender and ethnic diversity. Cops are required to respond to so many false alarms, safe than sorry idea. Develop competence within society and known to perform their duties. A lot of cops spend their time uncommitted (not actually actively enforcing the law) Reactive policing is responding to a crime. It is not a thing but a relationship. The visibility of police presence can make people feel safe, but over present can lead to unsafe feelings. When compliance and superior force falls apart, police foundations fall apart.
