Jan 8  2014 INTRO   TO  F ORENSIC  S CIENCE ­ Buy the textbook before next Wednesday ­ All material (in text, in lecture, in notes) ­ Exams are cumulative, so all content will be included. ­ Check schedule regularly, lectures are subject to change. ­ Assignment is due April 9 , at 8 a.m, or you lose 5 percent immediately ­ Strong emphasis on biology and chemistry, and teamwork O VERVIEW ­ Forensic Science is science exercised in a criminal investigation ­ SOCO : Scene of the Crime Officers, not CSI ­ L.O.S.E.R : Listen, Observe, Search, Evaluate, Record (or document) ­ Evidence can be collected and documented in many different ways ( videos, photographs, fingerprints, biological  fluids/components etc) ­ All biological evidence requires specific manners of collection ­ Footwear, tire marks ­ Firearms and ballistics, glass fracture patterns, bullet size, speed, ­ Bloodstains can determine the height of the murderer, velocity of the wound, impact, weapon type ­ Fluorescence and black lights ; cleaned blood can be viewed w
