Document Summary
Works together with nervous system (neuroendocrine system) Both are messaging systems, sending signals around the body. Similarities: both release chemical substances in order to communicate with another cell, endocrine hormone, neuron neurotransmitter. Glands of the endocrine system are widely scattered throughout the body. Endocrine glands are ductless glands a few endocrine glands are made of neurosecretory tissue: ex. sweat glands, release hormones without a physical pathway out (such as, holes) Tropic hormones: targets other endocrine glands and stimulate their growth and secretion (no end action: target other hormones, only one that targets other hormones because it works with 1+ hormones, causes an activation. Sex hormones: target reproductive tissues (progesterone, testosterone, estrogen: targets reproductive organs and releases hormones only to tissues, cause other functions. Anabolic hormones: stimulate growth of tissues mimic (ex. Gh or thyroid hormone: "adds to tissue, ex. causes muscle to build fat after a meal.
