Document Summary

Transport: circulates nutrients oxygen, glucose, electrolytes, hormone, and waste. Heat regulation: ex. working out (blood vessel exits) Ex. cold (blood vessels constrict to maintain body temp) Half of blood is made out of plasma which is mostly water (4-5l) Proteins are not always active: ex. fibrinogen & prothrombin clot blood. Formed elements cells or cell fragment -> mainly erythrocytes (rbc) Blood (plasma proteins, water, and other solute) (formed elements platelets, leukocytes, erythrocytes) Hematocrit tubes - % of rbc is the blood: a) normal 45-55% of rbc, b) anemic - less rbc, c) polcythemic - lots of rbc. Plasma liquid part of blood; clear, straw colored fluid; made up of 90% water and 10% solutes. Solutes 6% to 8% of plasma solutes are proteins, consisting of three main compounds: albumins: help maintain osmotic balance of the blood, keeps fluid in blood. Sponge : globulins: essential component of the immunity mechanism, fibrinogen: key role in blood clotting.
