How skin-lightening creams take away a women"s identity: The idea that fair skin is somehow superior to dark skin has been indoctrinated into individuals for centuries. Many of these skin-lightening products claim that having lighter skin somehow makes the individual more desirable for marriage, as well as heightened job prospects, confidence, and more respect from communities. To combat this, 21-year-old photographer pax jones launched the unfair & lovely campaign. The campaign particularly references fair & lovely, which had a total revenue in million in 2013 for their skin-lightening products. Skin lightening creams take away from a women"s identity because they promote that being fair is the ideal to get farther in life. In essence, a women"s culture, heritage, and race is undermined. Instead of learning to appreciate what they are genetically predisposed with, and the environment they grew up in, women are subject to the ideals perpetuated by the media.
