Document Summary
Socialization: we need to socialize; we are not rational. We humans are not rational, rather we are emotional. We have natural drives to be altruistic and we dislike too much inequality. Healthy humans suffer depression, reduced immunity, even die without communication: socialization is key. Humans interact from the moment they are born. From this, we acquire the necessary cognitive and emotional skills to get along in their society . Baby with pink onesie, baby with blue onesie. Pink baby = gentle and submissive, blue baby = rough not as independent. Develop their identity concept of the self: 3 main types of socialization, primary socialization. Intentional: what to eat, what to wear, what to play with, how to treat others. Unintentional: power, authority, gender, racism, patriarchy: secondary socialization. Socialization choices are limited by their past. Socialization is path dependent = where you go is where you end.
