Teams have better cooperation, understanding of interdependence, encouraged communication. Team forming stage model was made so people can know that they are going through something normal/it is predicted. In norming an leader can intervene and fix conflict and ambiguities so people can get back to tasks and be effective. They stopped being effective in storming as they were defending their opinions and not progressing. There can be negative effects of using teams (such as social loafing) but if you plan (based on the model) you can have effectiveness. Alternative developmental process model says things are not linear. Still begins with a phase of getting to know each other and the task. They socialize and take their time and are not productive. Then they become concerned with time and they begin putting their brains together, brainstorming, evaluating, etc and eventually through this creative discussion and interdependency there will be an effective outcome. Something remarkable happens when they become time conscious.
